Flower Festival

May 3 – May 5 (three days)

As a "festival of flowers to connect Hiroshima with the world" Flower Festival is held over a three day period from the 3rd to the 5th of May every year. It is one of the biggest festivals carried out during the long holiday "Golden Week", attracting over 1.6 million visitors. During the festival, various kinds of events take place mainly along Peace Boulevard including parades, music and dance stages, exhibits featuring food and products, flea markets and so on.

Toukasan / Yukata de Kinsai (Come to the Festival in Yukata)

Friday to Sunday of the 1st week of June (three days)

It’s one of the big three "taisai" festivals in Hiroshima which marks the arrival of early summer as a "day of first-time wearing of yukata." Food stalls are lined up all along the Chuo-dori street which turns into a pedestrian precinct in the evening, and people in beautiful yukata are seen all over the town.
Set the slogan"wander around in yukata feeling the beginning of summer," the festival holds gorgeous parades by models in yukata and fashion shows for new yukata collections.

Safe and secure campaign
Mimawari-kun is watching over you!

Early June to August 31

In Chuo-Dori Shopping Street, the campaign is carried out to aim for a safe and secure town. Around this time of year, since people are in their summer vacations, Mimawari-kun keeps the safety in the town with three aspects so that visitors including young people can enjoy their time shopping and eating out feeling secure.

Around October

This event livens up Hiroshima with fashion. It has a few functions to enjoy food and music and a fashion parade which people walk on Hondori and Kinzagai.
Get dressed nicely and go out into the town!

Chuo-Dori Autumn Concert

Around October

This event first started as a memorial concert of the championship of Hiroshima Toyo Carp. Later, it was determined to be held on a regular basis in Autumn to liven up the town with music. Clear sound of music echoes in the blue sky that is seen between the arched roofs.

Ebisu Taisai Festival (Ebisuko)

November 18 – November 20 (three days)

The festival is centered on Ebisu Shrine which is on Ebisu-Dori Shopping Street, and it is one of the big three "taisai" festivals in Hiroshima which pray for thriving business. It has over 400 years of history, and a lot of visitors or worshippers come and buy "komazarae (a rake)" which is said that it collects fortune. Chuo-dori is closed to traffic and kagura and taiko drum performances are held.

Early November to January 5 (the following year)

"Hiroshima Dreamination" takes place mainly along Peace Boulevard. Each shopping street is also decorated with lights according to its own theme. The theme for Chuo-dori is a "music paradise." The street is decorated with sculptures shaped like trumpets and treble clef with colorful lights.

Toryanse – praying for success in exams

Early January to March until "Sunbun no Hi (Vernal Equinox Day)"

Starting with northern Sapporo Hachimangu Shrine in Hokkaido to southern Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka, photos of ten Japan’s representative shrines where gods of learning are enshrined are printed on banners and put up along the street. Pass along the street and pass the exams!
